I am trying very hard to be sympathetic about this situation. It's probably very scary for these people who have considered themselves Canadian for decades. But the idea of all these Mennonites having sex - and children - outside of marriage for all these years is a little bit funny, you must admit...

Ran a quick poll in the office yesterday... Our afternoon news anchor, who's wife is about 4 months pregnant, said she could be out. She was actually born in Mexico to Mexican parents with ties to this area... Hmm...
And don't even get me going on the sex without being married thing! :)
That's crazy! Though I'm sure this is one of those situations that gets kind of quietly resolved - it's not like these are people who are putting a strain on our economy. And they're paying taxes (which is, at the end of the day, what's important to our gov't).
