Getting Annoyed

I just finished up my weekly phone call to my obstetrician's office. Believe it or not, I am still waiting for an appointment date for my six-week checkup. (For those of you keeping track at home, Briony is nine weeks old and counting...)

Today, I finally got a date instead of just a 'you're on the list and we'll call you': February 20. Which is okay, except that we're in BC from February 17 to 25. Sigh. I explained that. But February 20 was the only opening they had, and they said they'd call me when they were booking checkups for March. ARGH.

I did some quick talking and explained that I really wanted to see a specialist rather than my family doctor because (sorry if this is too much information) I had a substantial episiotomy that is still pretty uncomfortable. Apparently, those were the magic words. They didn't get me an appointment, but the receptionist promised that she was moving me up to the top of the cancellation list. It will still be an 'on call' appointment, so I'm running the risk of waiting for hours - or having my appointment cancelled last minute - if someone goes into labour. But it's a step in the right direction.

In the meantime, I don't know if it's okay for me to start working out... I know that I am *technically* supposed to wait for a doctor's approval before I do, but if I might not see a doctor until Briony is four months old. That's a long way away. And I don't think I can live indefinitely with the reality of hating myself every time I'm close to a mirror (or every time I look down).

Okay. Thanks for letting me rant :)

While you wait for your specialist appointment, see your family doctor. That's my 2 cents.

i totally feel your pain. literally. i had a massive episiotomy with Emma, and I completely understand your desire to figure out why it's still painful....mine only lasted for about 4 weeks though...so, my thoughts are with you...no fun

I'm not sure why one is told not to 'work out' until you see your Dr. We used to give simple exercises to patients as they left the hospital so it can't be too soon to start at 9 weeks...just start gradually. As for how you look...think of it like Oprah...love the body you have:)

Just your friendly neighborhood lurker here... I had the same situation after I delivered my first daughter - I couldn't get in to see my ob until 10 wks after delivery, and I was a freaking out first time mommy! With my 2nd and 3rd daughters, I has a midwife and the difference was massive! The after care i received was amazing - babies and me getting checked without leaving home weekly until 6 wks after their births. I felt so much more in control. Think about a midwife for next time - even with your other health issues, a midwife could work together with an ob to give you well-rounded care. Just some thoughts...

btw, your menu with the "Sloppy Joe Bidens" prompted me to laugh my ass off!

And, finally, Briony is such a little dolly.

I had a pretty brutal episiotomy too with James. It was horrible - definately the worst part of the whole process for me. I got infected, and that was very painful. My advice is to steer clear of the workouts until you have that area all fixed up - or at least not sore anymore. If it's still bothering you, it might mean you are over-doing it a little bit. Take some time to really put your feet up, and get yourself better first.

I found your blog through Jobina's I hope you don't mind.
I am a mother of two and a fitness instructor that specializes in pre/post natal work outs.
If it has been 9 weeks since your delivery you should be good to work out.
You will want to watch how you episiotomy feels and if it is irritated while working out. Start with 15 -20 minutes of cardio and build every couple of days. I hope you don't mind me giving you my opinion.
Please feel free to visit my blog as well.
