Finding the Centre

I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen"
And it's still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side

And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can't find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side

And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
- Mark Hall

This song was good for my heart this weekend, and I'm sharing it with Kathy this week because I know it's one of her special songs too.

It's one of my favourites, because it doesn't minimize the pain of disappointment and confusion and hurt. It doesn't pretend that just having God in your life fixes things and protects you from anything going wrong. It's not the musical equivalent of a Christian who barely knows you tossing a flippant Romans 8.38 your way (you know what I mean). It's a reminder that he hasn't left me and that he is still good.

Such beautiful lyrics it made me cry. So relevant all the time. There is always a storm, so it seems. If it's not one thing it's something else. It's what we do in the storm. Who we lean on and how we hope.

I was praying for some words to give to you and this song does it - interesting how God answers prayer:) Just to add to your thoughts, this verse has cropped up in my hearing twice in past few days. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil to give you a future AND A HOPE". (Excuse taking it out of context!)
