New Pet Peeve

WHY oh WHY would you bring your child along to your hair appointment? It really ruins it for the other moms in the salon who arranged for childcare and intended to use the afternoon as ME TIME (nevermind the people who don't have kids). It's just not okay.

Absolute desperation. It's all I can think of. It happened to me once when my childcare fell through at the last second. Had to decide whether it was worse to take them along or ditch on my hairdresser last minute.

Tannis - That's what I was prepared to think too... And I could understand that. But it became pretty obvious that this mom ALWAYS brought her kid along with her.

maybe she doesn't have such amazing family and friends to count on like you do?? or maybe she's just the type of person who can't leave her kid alone with others due to trust issues?

Maybe her husband works on the road?? It can be so hard to find childcare for the middle of the day when everyone obvious to pawn your kid off on works full-time or lives too far away for stuff like that. S has been to the dentist, the hairdresser, heck I even took her to a trade show one time when I was uber desperate.

Part of it is not being very good at asking for favors - especially when you live out in the sticks so you don't always feel like you can return it the other way.

The other part is just making it work for everyone involved. That's why I found a hairdresser with kids who works out of her basement. Then I don't have to worry about other clients, but also don't have to stress about what to do with her for an hour.

Kendra - Maybe... But I paid someone for childcare. And I suspect that if she shells out what I do for haircuts, she could have managed to do that too :)

KA - I head you on the favours thing. But it sounds like you found a fabulous solution!
